We, People of the Islands (Nós, povo das ilhas)

A film still from We, People of the Islands shows a large tree that extends up then to the left, with branches forming a round dome above the trunk. In the foreground, the ground is muddy and covered in stones. Some rocky mountains rise in the background, below a blue sky with few clouds.

From a forgotten photo of a group of clandestine Cape Verdean guerrillas in the mountains of Cuba, Elson, a young filmmaker, searches for the silenced heroes of this daring and little-known military operation, whose main objective was to fulfill Amílcar Cabral’s dream of liberating the country from the clutches of colonialism.
