Tell Me When You Get Home

An animated film still from Tell Me When You Get Home shows an older Brown woman sitting in a shallow pond with a younger Brown child resting on her lap. The woman is wearing a long green dress and looking down solemnly while the child is wearing a white tank top and shorts and has a pink mark on their left eye. Around the lilypads and tree roots in the pond, butterflies, hummingbirds, and amphibians gather.

Fifteen-year-old Honest Cardamom hasn’t seen her mother since she was 4, but at a crowded family party, she begins to feel her presence in ways she can’t explain. When Honest senses the presence of her mother, she finds the courage to ask her uncle about the woman she barely remembers and, in doing so, begins to uncover pieces of herself.

Set in the space between Honest and her Uncle O, Tell Me When You Get Home unfolds as a long conversation between two people who have both lost a loved one. This short animated film is a testament to love and a testament to family.
