God Sleeps on Sundays

A film still from God Sleeps on Sundays shows a young Black man and an older Black woman standing in front of a wooden hut. The man holds a hammer and looks into the distance. The woman holds a cane and a basket and is speaking to the man.

James, a preacher who has fallen from grace after a corruption scandal in the city, is assigned to build a new church in a distant rural community. Accompanied by his wife Mavis, James views this as a second chance for himself and his family. However, the major obstacle in his way is a staunch, revered traditional healer named Chirongoma.
