Enjoy the Tropix and Have A Banana ! (An diw jwi ! On a la banane sous les tropiques !)

A film still from Enjoy the tropix and have a banana ! shows a close-up of an older Black man’s face. He has a gray beard and is wearing blue sunglasses and a red-and-white hood. In his sunglasses, there’s the reflection of older buildings.

Screenshots of the reality of an islander who enjoys having at the expense of being — like a twist of fate, as if trapped in a hamster wheel, where our slightest desire has to be satisfied now, perhaps in the hope of compensating for all the days without. Welcome to “the Tropics”! Where the paradoxes of neocolonial daily life are at work in a suffocating economic and health context.

Directors Spotlight

Kristine Blonbou

Director

Born in Guadeloupe, Kristine B found her way into the world of filmmaking almost by chance. Captivated by this form of expression, she directed her first short fiction film, The Hideout , as part of a 48-hour film challenge. Hooked on filmmaking, she pursued further training and gained experience on set until that first short documentary.
