Emerging from the L.A. Rebellion, Larkin’s 1982 film challenged dominant cinematic representations through an intimate, deeply political coming-of-age story centered on Black female subjectivity. Together, the panelists discuss the film’s production, its relationship to Black independent cinema and the continued urgency of creating images that allow Black women to be fully seen on their own terms.
