No Sunshine in Here

!
A film still from No Sunshine In Here shows an older Black woman in a red dress sitting in front of a run-down building. Behind the woman, there’s an open door revealing a table with statues and a candle. A white cat paces at the woman’s feet, looking up at her.

Between personal memories and historical research, a picture emerges of the life of domestic workers in Brazil, including the filmmaker’s mother and other women who confront this legacy. It reveals how living spaces were deliberately designed to segregate bodies and sustain hierarchies. Today, over 6 million people work as domestic workers in Brazil.
