Spotlight Conversation: A Litany for Survival: The Life and Work of Audre Lorde Co-Presented by Black Feminist Film School

With Ada Gay Griffin, JT Takagi, and Michelle Parkerson, moderated by Alexis Pauline Gumbs
“…That is the work of the poet within each one of us. To envision what has not yet been, and to work with every fiber of who we are to make the reality pursuit of those visions irresistible.” —Audre Lorde
BlackStar celebrates the 90th birthday of thinker, writer, activist, mother, warrior, and teacher Audre Lorde with a retrospective screening of the 1995 documentary A Litany for Survival and a spotlight discussion about the film featuring directors Ada Gay Griffin and Michelle Parkerson, and sound recordist JT Takagi (presently Executive Director of Third World Newsreel). Moderated by scholar, poet, activist, and educator Alexis Pauline Gumbs, this conversation honors the life and work of Lorde, celebrating her contributions to literature and social justice, while unpacking the making of this tender, intimate, and powerful Third World Newsreel production.
