The Time is Always Now: Short Films
In conjunction with the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s exhibit The Time is Always Now: Artists Reframe the Black Figure we will be presenting a two-part film series examining how we fill in the gaps of history, these films offer opportunities for completion. The first part, a shorts program featuring narrative and experimental storytelling, pushes us to consider the contenders and contradictions of Black life in America, will take place Sunday, November 10 on loop 11AM, 12PM, and 1PM. It will feature films by Roni Nicole Henderson, Fahamu Pecou, Damon Davis, and more.
The second film program will take place on Sunday, January 12. Tickets to the Philadelphia Museum of Art will include access to the shorts program, as well as, the museum’s collection and the The Time is Always Now exhibition.

Bridge/Refrain is a short film exploring a young woman’s arrival in the land of the ancestors after falling victim to gun violence. Here, she discovers that, though there is healing for her wounds and safety in the arms of benevolent beings, her work is far from done.
We Can't Cop Cars Without Seeing Cop Cars

The project explores the notion of Black leisure by highlighting spaces where Black men can experience freedom, autonomy, and joy. We Can’t Cop… uses cars as an allegorical as well as a literal suggestion of movement and escapism. Can’t Cop… uses cars as an allegorical as well as a literal.
The Stranger

A Stranger falls from the sky one day, in search of a castle and a Queen that was shown to him in his dream. In his search, he is taken on a fantastic voyage where he meets magical characters along the way. Will he find his castle and queen, and will they be the same as they were in his dream?

UNTITLED (peace) is about a male character who represents the body in conflict, divided against itself. In what appears to be an unsuccessful attempt to overpower the landscape with brute force, custodians of the forest observe him in his struggle, and ultimately relinquish him from his torment.
